- Your rent is due
Your rent is due
I was waiting outside while my wife grabbed a few groceries.
Nothing major. Just lunch stuff.
So I did what most of us do in dead time…
Opened TikTok.
But then I saw something that made me stop scrolling.
It was one of those street-interview style videos.
The guy being interviewed?
A billionaire. Immigrant. Just exited his tech company for $1.3 billion.
The interviewer asks:
“What’s the biggest thing that led to that billion-dollar exit?”
And without blinking, the guy said:
“Discipline is the tax you pay for success later.
Success isn’t owned. It’s leased.
And rent is due every day.”
I paused the video.
Let that one hit me in the ribs.
Because it’s not just true.
It’s undeniable.
We all want freedom, growth, flexibility, impact…
But we forget the boring part:
Every day you skip the work… you skip the rent.
Here’s what I think that really means:
Success isn’t something you get.
It’s something you pay for daily.
And discipline is the price.
If you’re building something right now…
A business, a newsletter, a skill…
And you’re wondering why it’s not moving fast enough.
Look at your discipline.
Not in 10 areas.
Just one.
Find the one thing that needs your daily rent payment.
That’s your key.
To your growth,
Vikko
