- The night I put the oats back
The night I put the oats back
It was 10pm.
I had eaten dinner just two hours earlier.
But there I was, standing in front of the glow of the fridge light, reaching for my dragonfruit overnight oats (bless my wife for making them).
I unscrewed the lid.
Grabbed a spoon.
Paused.
"Am I actually hungry?"
Silence.
Then I remembered that YouTube video…
The one where the guy ate carbs before bed and had elevated blood sugar the entire night.
Not just a little spike. A whole-night sabotage.
I stared at the oats.
And I put the lid back on.
Returned the jar to the fridge.
Grabbed my toothbrush.
That was it.
No dramatic moment. No trumpet of willpower.
Just one quiet victory.
One tap on the shoulder from Future Me saying: "Good job."
That’s what consistency really is.
It’s not loud. It’s not sexy.
It’s built in quiet moments like this.
Moments no one sees but you.
Every time you choose discipline over default…
Every time you delay gratification…
Every time you honor your long-term self…
You rewire your identity.
You prove to yourself: "I'm not who I used to be."
So here’s your reminder:
The identity shift doesn’t happen when you post the before-and-after photo.
It happens the moment you put the oats back.
If you’re ever standing in front of the fridge at 10pm…
Staring at a snack you don’t need...
Remember this:
Put the oats back.
To your growth,
Vikko
