Stress, Snacks, and the Lies We Tell Ourselves
Why “just one” is the most dangerous phrase you can trust.
It’s start’s with… one chip, I don’t know why.
(don’t worry, not breaking into a full Linkin Park cover here).
Confession:
Last night I spiraled.
Not in a dramatic, “my life is falling apart” way.
But in the very ordinary, very sneaky way stress gets you.
Here’s what happened:
Big meeting during the day. Pressure, stress, that knot in your chest.
By evening, I told myself the oldest lie in the book:
“Just one potato chip.”
Boom. Domino effect.
That single chip turned into pandesal.
Biscuits.
Milk chocolate.
Chips again.
And to top it all off, late-night eating (a crime against digestion, sleep, and my self-respect).
This morning as I’m writing this?
I didn’t just feel bloated. I felt guilty.
You know that repentant guilt…
Half-serious, half-funny?
Like when you wake up and think, “Why did I betray myself over Lay’s?”
And the truth is, it wasn’t about the food.
It was about that one decision.
That tiny permission slip I gave myself.
Because once you trust “just one,” you’ve already lost the game.
That’s the lesson.
Don’t negotiate with your cravings. They’ll always out-lawyer you.
👉 The story here isn’t about potato chips. It’s about how quickly we can spiral when we trust the wrong voice inside our head.
Your turn: Think about your own “just one chip” moment this week. Where did it start? And what can you do differently next time?
Because the spiral doesn’t begin with the food.
It begins with the permission.
To your growth,
Vikko
