Too Much "Action" is Like a Rocking Chair

Ever feel like you're constantly on the move but not really getting anywhere?

It's kind of like being on a rocking chair—busy, but not making any real progress.

The trap of endless action is real.

As a busy parent with a full-time job and content creation projects, I know this all too well.

I juggle my career, content creation, and personal goals.

But sometimes, it feels like I'm just treading water. Going with the flow.

A couple of months ago, I hit a wall. For 2 or 3 days, I felt like I had no time for myself or my goals.

I was frustrated, angry, and completely demotivated. Quitting content creation seemed like the best option. I already had a good-paying job software company, so why was I even bothering?

I craved focus time for myself and content creation goals

But, tasks just kept on piling up. My mind started running on autopilot.

I was just reacting to the loudest demands, not moving forward.

Then, I remembered something crucial: never make decisions when you're feeling extreme emotions. So, I took a step back and wrote down my feelings.

Just putting pen to paper brought me peace—not because my problems were solved, but because I found clarity in the chaos.

I realized that my overwhelm came from trying to do too much without clear direction.

My mind needed clarity and confidence.

Clarity on what to prioritize and confidence that I was doing the right thing given my limited time, energy, and money.

My preferred solution? Balance action with thinking.

When I'm overwhelmed, I write down what's on my mind. This simple tactic worked countless of times for me.

It helps me focus on what truly matters and ensures I'm not just spinning in place.

Here's my takeaway:

You need time to think and plan, but too much thinking leads to stagnation. Too much action keeps you busy but gets you nowhere.

Finding a balance between action and thinking is crucial for people with high aspirations.

Here's my routine to maintain this balance:

  1. Set Aside Thinking Time: Spend at least one day a week to reflect and plan. Use this time to assess your direction and ensure you're moving towards your goals.

  2. Write It Down: Whenever you feel overwhelmed, take a moment to write down your thoughts and tasks. This helps clear your mind and brings clarity.

  3. Prioritize: Focus on what's truly important, not just what's urgent. Review your tasks regularly to ensure you're working on the right things.

Finding the balance between thinking and action is key to making real progress.

You don’t want to be busy, you want to be productive.

So take time to step back, think, and plan. You'll be amazed at how much further you can go.
