The Milo Test: Make Big Decisions with Zero Regrets

Hey there!

Ever been stuck on making a decision?

Yeah, me too. A lot.

But recently, I stumbled upon a simple trick that's been a game-changer.

And it all started with a glass of Milo.

Let me explain...

For the past 133 days, I've been obsessed with counting calories.

MyFitnessPal became my best friend.

Then, my brother and his family flew in from Sydney.

They hadn't been home in four years!

Suddenly, my little calorie-counting world turned upside down.

Family dinners. Celebrations. Childhood favorites.

Food, food, and more food.

I was torn.

Should I stick to my diet? Or should I dive into all the deliciousness?

Then, something happened that made everything click.

We were at our aunt's place.

If you knew this aunt, you'd understand. Her house is like a five-star hotel where you're the only guest.

You don't lift a finger. Everything's served to you!

And then she brought it out. A big glass of ice-cold Milo.

It's pure childhood nostalgia in a glass!

As I stared at that Milo, a thought hit me:

In 10 years, what would I regret more? Sticking to my calorie count or missing out on this moment?

Boom. Decision made.

I grabbed that Milo and savored every sip.

And you know what? I didn't feel guilty at all.

Because I realized something big:

Sometimes, the best decision isn't the one that serves your short-term goals. It's the one that serves your long-term happiness.

This isn't just about Milo or calories.

This "10-year test" can be a game-changer for all kinds of decisions.

Thinking about leaving your comfy job for something new? Ask yourself:

In 10 years, will I regret playing it safe or taking the leap?

Scared to start that side hustle? Think:

A decade from now, will I kick myself for not trying?

Considering a big move to a new city or country?

Fast forward 10 years. Will you regret staying put or embracing the adventure?

It works for smaller stuff too:

  • Thinking about reaching out to that potential mentor?

  • Wondering if you should start building your personal brand online?

  • Not sure if you should ask for that raise?

For each one, imagine yourself 10 years down the road.

Which decision would Future You high-five you for?

Now, I'm not saying this method is foolproof.

We can't predict the future. But it does something powerful:

It shifts our focus from short-term fears to long-term fulfillment.

It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day.

To worry about immediate consequences.

But often, those things we stress about now won't even be a blip on our radar in a few years.

What seems like a big deal today might be just a funny story you tell in 2034.

So next time you're stuck on a decision, big or small, try the "Milo Test":

  1. Picture the choice clearly.

  2. Fast forward 10 years in your mind.

  3. Ask: "Which option would I regret not choosing?"

Your gut usually knows the answer right away.

And here's the kicker: This method isn't about always choosing the wild, risky option. Sometimes, the thing you'll regret is not being more responsible or careful.

The point isn't to ignore consequences. It's to make sure you're considering the right consequences.

Since I started using this trick, decision-making has gotten a whole lot easier. And tastier, in the case of that Milo!

So, what decision are you wrestling with right now?

Give the Milo Test a try.

Your future self might just thank you for it.

Here’s to making choices we won't regret,
