I made writing a job... and it broke me
There was a time when I couldn’t wait to write.
Mindset. Discipline. Personal Brand.
Writing about writing.
It lit me up.
Not for followers.
Not for clients.
Just because I had something I needed to say.
And then slowly…
I started chasing the money.
Not because I’m greedy.
But because I’ve been doing this for two years—
And the income still wasn’t consistent.
So I told myself:
“It’s time to be strategic.
Write what sells.
Talk about money.”
And that’s when it started slipping.
My posts got tighter… but emptier.
I wrote less. Posted less.
Started second-guessing everything.
The thing I loved doing… suddenly felt like a chore.
And here’s what stung the most:
The reach went down too.
Turns out, people can tell when the words are forced.
When you’re creating from pressure, not power.
When you're trying to extract something instead of give something.
I forgot why I started.
And maybe that’s what you need to hear today too:
Don’t let the pressure to “monetize” smother the reason you started sharing in the first place.
Write what you care about.
Say what you’re dying to say.
That’s the stuff that moves people.
And ironically?
It’s also what tends to make the money eventually.
But only if you don’t break your voice to chase it.
